What to buy

Once you’ve selected your location to build your stock tank, you’ll need to formulate a budget and start buy your materials.

The best place to buy your stock tank is from Tractor Supply. There are a multitude of options to choose from. What’s most important is to ensure you pick a stock tank that best fits your space, style, and can holds as many people as desired. A list of stock tanks from Tractor Supply can be found here. We recommend a tank at least 8 feet in diameter.

Once you’ve chosen your stock tank, you’ll need a filtration system. Intex specializes in aboveground pool filtration systems but Amazon will give you the best buying options. We recommend the Intex Krystal Clear Sand Filter Pump for Above Ground Pools, 16-inch, 110-120V with GFCI from Amazon.

With the above filter set up, you’ll need to fill the canister with filter-grade sand. We recommend Fairmount Minerals Pool Filter Sand #20 Grade Silica Sand.

Depending on the design of your tank, you may want to consider purchasing additional hoses to complete/upgrade the filter set up. If you purchase an Intex filer, you’ll want to buy Intex hoses. We recommend the Intex 1.5″ Diameter hose.

In order to keep your water clean, you’ll need to have consistent chlorine levels. We recommend some simple chlorine tablets to keep things simple. They can be found on Amazon here.

Make your life easy and purchase a floating chemical dispenser with thermometer. We recommend something like the Aquatix Pro Large Pool Chemical Dispenser with Thermometer from Amazon. There are a multitude of options and the choice is up to you!

Depending on where you live and the location of your stock tank, you may want to consider a solar cover to keep the pool clean and warm. You’ll want something that is slightly larger than your stock tank to ensure for easier storage and adequate surface area. If you’ve settled on a round stock tank pool, we recommend Intex Solar Cover for 12ft Diameter from Amazon.
